1) Discuss poverty in the world's wealthiest nation. How does in adequate
education, low wages and high costs, limited government aid, mental health
issues and hopelessness play a role? How can one overcome barriers to
development? (13 points)
2) Discuss the cycle of poverty. Provide some good concrete examples. How
did colonialism affect poverty today and how is it a good example of the
cycle of poverty? How is the story of Mushutu and Juan a good example of
people trying to escape the cycle of poverty? (15 points)
3) How can living simply be an option to combat poverty? Share three ways
that explain how living simply is a way of living in solidarity with the
poor. How does trust in God rather than possessions translate into an
American teenager’s everyday life? How do teens find security in
possessions? Does it work? What does a growth in trust look like? (15
points)
