3) Attention Mariners….Been noticing the number 23 around campus…well on May 23rd ASB presents a year end event… "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" on Opening Weekend…Friday, May 23rd at 3:45pm at the AMC Broadway on the Promenade. We have rented out the theater for a private showing of the movie for SMCHS. Contracts are available outside Mr. Grillo’s office. Tickets are $9. Contracts and the payment are due at the same time and both should be turned into the Student Activities Office. Contracts are due by Wednesday, May 21st or when tickets are sold out, whichever comes
first. Please turn your contract in early to assure you will receive a ticket. Please see Mr. Grillo or ASB with any questions.
4) The senior class council will be selling Jamba Juice On Thursday, May 15th for $3.
5) Interested in visiting Costa Rica over next Easter break? There will be an informational meeting Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm in Rm 95 (Mr. Wengeler's room) for students and parents who want to find out about this exciting field trip."
6) ATTENTION KENYA CLUB: THere will be an IMPORTANT KENYA CLUB MEETING this Tuesday. , MAY 13th during LUNCH in MS. Ferraro's room! See you there! :)
7) Attention all class council candidates…please make sure you hand in a copy of your speech to Mr. Grillo today to be reviewed. You may use the letter of intent you submitted. It will be handed back to you before your speech on Wednesday. Thank you!
8) Attention Lady Mariner Volleyball players: Practice will be held on Wednesday, May 14th, 4:30-6:00 pm in the gym, Monday, May 19th, 3:00 - 5:00 pm, Wednesday, May 21st, 4:30-6:00 pm in the gym and Tuesday, May 27th, 4:00-6:00 pm in the gym. The practice schedule and permission form for going to the beach can be found on the bulletin board outside Mr. Bruce's office in the westwing. Please be prompt to practice on Wednesday and bring your permission forms.
9) Attention Mariners: The athletic department is hosting the First Annual Mariner Classic Faculty / Student Tennis Tournament. Come out and watch your favorite teacher and Mariner tennis player as they compete in an exciting doubles tournament. Matches are played every afternoon at Reed Park, across the street from the church, starting at 3:00 pm. Come out and cheer on your favorite teams. The tournament brackets are posted on the school's web site on the athletic's page. "Go Mariner Faculty and Student Tennis Players"
10) Wow, what an afternoon of tennis. Thanks to all the teachers and students who came out to cheer on their favorite teams. We had some great matches.
Here are the results:
If a first round match-up between the 1 and 8 seeds, there was a stunning upset with the 8th seeded team of Mrs. Ito and Kayla Vidal, also know as "Last But Not Least", defeating, in a very close and competitive match, the 1st seeded team of Mrs. Rice and Kristin Rottino, also, know as the "Rice Krispies", by the score of 6-4.
In another first round match in the women's brackets, the 2nd seeded team of Ms. Charkut and Nikko Nooryani, also known as "Samantha Who?", easily defeated the 7th seeded team of Mrs. Hartsfield and Rosalinda Galdamez, also know as "Team Mercury (Hg)", by the score of 6-2.
On the Men's side there was one rout and one marathon match.
In a one sided match the 4th seeded team of our very own principal, Mr. Gasper and Mike Marzan-Soriano, also known as "The Domers", slaughtered the 5th seeded team of Mr. Nuno and Edward Cheng, also known as "Chuno", by the score of 6-0.
And finally, in the longest match of the day, being decided in a tie-breaker, the 3rd seeded team of Mr. White and Gabe Tebow, also known as "D.C.O.'s", narrowly defeated the 6th seeded team of Mr. Chacon and Solomon Moon, also known as "Dark Side of the Moon", by the score of 7-6, with a tie-breaker score of 8-6.
Today's matches will surely live up to the standard set yesterday, so come out and support your favorite teams.
Here is today's Mariner Classic Doubles Tournament matches:
In the women's bracket the 4th seeded team of Ms. Santana and Tara Erfan, also known as "X & Y Solvers", will take on the 5th seeded team of Ms. O'Neill and Scarlate Date, also known as "S.O.S." at 3:30 pm.
In the second women's match of the afternoon, the 3rd seeded team of Mrs. Dinsmore and Mikeala Aroff, also, known as "NETCHIX", will take on the 6th seeded team of Mrs. Halverson and Samantha Alegre, also known as "MATHLETES", at 4:00 pm.
On the men's side, the 2nd seeded team of Mr. Jensen and Ben Laroza, also known as "Revelation 6:8", will take on the 7th seeded team of Mr. Grillo and David Boyle, also known as "Broile", at 3:30 pm.
And the final match of the day, will pit the 1st seeded power house team of Mr. Weiskopf and Charles Palacios, also known as "The Wise Palace", against the 8th seeded team of Mr. Wengler and Robby Voets, also known as "V-Dubs", at 3:00 pm.
All matches are played at Reed park across from the church. Come out and watch some terrific tennis.
